Monkey Muffins

Have you ever heard of monkey bread?   If you have you know it's a sugary, cinnamony, pull-apart bread.   These are a variation so that you have your own individual Muffin. This is a great recipe to through together in a minute, as well as a great recipe to use for that leftover dough.  Oh, by the way, this is my dad's favorite thing I've ever made!  These are nummy guys!

Monkey Muffins

The cast: Leftover bread dough (or refrigerator biscuit dough, cut into thirds.)
Butter
cinnamon
sugar
sweetened, condensed milk.

I used angel biscuit dough for this, so I'll just show you how to make it:
I didn't have any buttermilk, so I just used the old trick of putting 1 tablespoon of vinegar into every 1 cup of milk.  This recipe calls for 2 cups of buttermilk.

sprinkle yeast over 1/2 cup warm water.

Add 5 cups flour, and 1/4 cup sugar to a bowl.

Then add 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon soda, 1/2 cup shortening, and 1 teaspoon salt.

Add the buttermilk and yeast mixture, and blur the picture while your at it, only if you want to be like me.  (sorry)

Mix to combined.  At this point you can pop it in the fridge until your ready to use.

Now lets make the monkey muffins!

add 1/2 teaspoon butter to muffin tin, and about 1/2 teaspoon sugar.

Then plop in about 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.

Roll dough in to walnut sized  balls (or cut refrigerator biscuit dough into thirds).  Place three into each muffin tin.

top with 1/2 a teaspoon butter.  sprinkle on about 1/3 teaspoon sugar, and just a dash of cinnamon.  Allow dough to rise, if you can, or just pop em' in the oven for 15 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.

And then....  Are you ready?.....(this is what Pioneer Woman said, she's my new roll model.)

Pour on a glob of sweetened condensed milk!!

Let sit for a while and allow to soak-up lots of sticky, yummy-ness.   scoop out with a spoon and serve to hungry humans.

Mmmm.  Just look at that milk!!

  Enjoy!
